Obituary for Evelyn Rausch

Evelyn G. Rausch, 83, of Ashwaubenon passed away at home with her family by her side on February 23, 2018. The daughter of the late Henry and Cecelia (Freeman) Van Hulst was born on June 3, 1934 in Wrightstown, Wisconsin.

As a devoted wife, loving mother, supportive grandmother and proud great-grandmother, family was the essence of Evelyn’s whole life. Evelyn married Robert J. Rausch on September 15, 1956 at St. Joseph Church in Green Bay. Together, they celebrated 61 years of marriage and raised seven children. Their family enjoyed fishing and camping together. Mom also managed the family paper route for 15 years, folding the papers and driving the kids on Sunday mornings.

There was no shortage of family trips. The family station wagon took them on many adventures from Florida to Tennessee to Wyoming. Dad mapped out the route, while mom happily attended to the seven unbelted children.

Taking care of her grandchildren was the highlight of her days. There was not a sporting or school event that she did not attend. Her refrigerator could barely be seen with the wide array of her grandchildren's activity calendars.

As her family continued to grow, she enjoyed rocking and spending time with her great-grandchildren. She looked forward to their visits as their hugs and kisses kept her young at heart.

As their days were filled with family, Evelyn and Bob still found time to travel together. They were fortunate to take the trip of a lifetime to Alaska to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary. There, they met new friends, traveled via dogsled, and enjoyed the wildlife at Denali Park.

She enjoyed a great game of cards, and was quite competitive in nature. Cheering on the Brewers or listening to polka music were some of her favorite pastimes. Evelyn always opened her home and heart to everyone. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by all those who knew her.

Survivors include her loving husband Robert of 61 year. Her seven children and their spouses, Robert Jr. (Maureen) Rausch, Patty Rausch, Jerry (Angela) Rausch, Tom (Pam) Rausch, Debbie (Andy) Shobe, Tammy (Jim) Mispagel, and Penny (Pete) Smits. She is further survived by her twelve grandchildren, Ryan and Kayla Rausch, Bruce Thomas, Mike (Jenny) Rausch, Zach Rausch, Jacob Shobe, Ashley, Taylor and Cody Mispagel, Megan (Christopher) Shea, Amber (Cory) and Alex Smits. Her legacy also continues on with her nine great-grandchildren.

Her surviving siblings include Alice Hazaert and Norbert (Carol) Van Hulst as well as her brother-in-law Edward (Jonelle) Rausch.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Judy and daughter-in-law Julie Rausch. Her sisters and their spouses, Florence (Walter) Morrison and Bernice (Leon) Schnell, also passed before her. In addition, her brothers-in-law Richard Hazaert, Ralph Rausch and David Rausch, and sisters-in-law Patricia Rausch and Elanor Rausch, preceded her in death.

Family and friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 1, 2018. Visitation will continue at 9:00 AM on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 2270 S Oneida St, Green Bay. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM.

The family also wishes to thank the girls at Heartland, Alice from HomeInstead, Edna, and John from Unity. Bob also was grateful to his children for their support with help in Eve’s care.
