Obituary for Larry Lilienthal

Larry Vincent Lilienthal, 67, Iron Mountain, MI, passed away on June 19, 2017 following a series of health issues. The son of Lawrence and Evangeline (Bachman) Lilienthal was born on December 31, 1949 in California.

Larry was a self-made man and a jack of all trades. He loved working on automobiles, boats and airplanes. The old story about how he hitchhiked across the country to buy an airplane with $20,000 in a briefcase turned out to be true. He built his own house in Iron Mountain and traveled the world.

He shared what he had with his community by allowing the school system to use the land he owned to teach the local children about engines and rockets. The remote control flying club could use his land for whatever they needed, as long as they had their own insurance!

In 1998, he married Rebecca Bixby in Lake Tahoe. They made countless trips together, but Australia was always Larry’s favorite.

Larry will be deeply missed by mother, Evangeline, sister Sue, cousin Doug and other members of his extended family. He is further survived his wife, Rebecca, her sons, Daniel, Aaron, Nickolas and his family. Larry had lifelong friends all over the world.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence, sister Carol, as well as other members of his extended family.

He was also preceded in death by his dog, Brown Dog. She lived for nearly two decades because he wouldn’t put her down and she wouldn’t let go.

A private service will be held at a date to be determined.
