Obituary for Marion L. Prochniak

Marion Louise Prochniak (nee Kitto) joined her loved ones in heaven on Monday, August 20, 2018. She was born on October 25, 1924 in Racine, WI to Stanley and Irene Kitto.

Marion attended St. John Nepomuk Grade School and St. Catherine's High School in Racine. She received a bachelor's degree in social work from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee and later returned to receive her certification in elementary education at Dominican College in Racine. Marion went on to find much professional fulfillment as a 3rd/4th grade teacher for many years at Webster School in Green Bay.

In 1949, Marion married Robert (Bob) F. Prochniak at St. John Nepomuk Church. It was there that they had met in grade school and later renewed their friendship through letter writing while Bob was in the service. They had four children together: Julie, Todd, Mary, and John. Marion claimed that she and Bob were "pants and suspenders." Together they shared 63 years of life's joys, challenges, successes, and enduring friendship, all seasoned with much laughter. For Marion and Bob family always came first and they reaped many rewards from that commitment.

Bob and Marion traveled extensively after retiring. Marion enjoyed many community activities over the years which resulted in a full social calendar. She was a member of the Brown County Retired Teachers Association, Brown County Women's Club, Concerned Hearts, St. Matthew's and Our Lady of Lourdes parishes. She volunteered at Bellin Hospital and she and Bob enjoyed teaching Art Appreciation in the Green Bay School district. Personal interests included current events, history, and politics. Marion was an avid sports fan and followed football (Packers and Bears), baseball (Cubs), the NBA, and most recently the World Cup. Marion's game day wear always included pockets to collect on her bets! She supported her children and grandchildren wholeheartedly. Marion was a lifelong devout Catholic. Her deep spiritual life was evident in her abilities to find the goodness and potential in everyone and, most admirably, to accept life as it came.

Marion is survived by her four children: Julie (Dave) Marie of Plover, WI, Todd Prochniak and John (Brenda) Prochniak of Green Bay, and Mary Prochniak of Madison, WI; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, a daughter Susan, and most recently her dear sister, Elaine Poulson of Racine.

Friends may call after 9:00AM Friday August 24, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, De Pere until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM. In lieu of flowers, Marion requests that memorials be made to the Epilepsy Foundation- Heart of Wisconsin or The Boys and Girls Club of Green Bay.
