Obituary for Richard Robert "Dick" Grashorn

Richard “Dick” Robert Grashorn, 96, Green Bay, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 25, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born May 31, 1921 in Paw Paw, Michigan to the late Leo and Edna Grashorn. Dick served his country from 1943 – 1946 as a Sargent in the U.S. Army. He served in both England and France, having been wounded in the hip in the latter; he carried the bullet in him to this day. He met his wife Jean at a USO dance in 1943 in Youngstown, Ohio on his way to overseas. They were later married on August 24, 1946 in Struthers, Ohio. They then move to Kalamazoo, and later to Grand Rapids before relocating to Green Bay. Dick worked for 15 years as a sales rep. for Colgate – Palmolive Co. In 1963 he stared his own business RR Grashorn Janitorial Supplies. He was an active member of the Kiwanis for over 50 years, having served as president in East Grand Rapids and more recently a member of the Downtown Kiwanis in Green Bay. Coming from a one parent home, Dick learned early in life the importance of helping others. Dick was a current member of Christ Alone Church, Allouez.
He is survived by his daughter; Chris (Dan) Linnane, nephews; Don (Pam) Grashorn, Bill (Jeanne) Grashorn, and his niece Barbara (Bruce) DeVries.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife Jean on October 14, 2008, his brother Eugene (Lorraine) Grashorn, and nephew Thomas Grashorn.
Friends may call at Christ Alone Church, Allouez, after 10:00AM Thursday June 29, 2017, until time of service at 11:00AM with Presbyterian Lay Pastor Max Ballard officiating. Please go to to send online condolences to the family. RYAN FUNERAL HOME, De Pere is assisting the family.
