Obituary for William "Bill" Parins

It is with great sadness that the family of Bill Parins announces that Bill passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on March 22, 1948, to Lloyd and Audrey (Salmon) Parins. His dad had a career in the Navy, so Bill and his sister, Kathy, had many fond memories of growing up in cities such as Kansas City, Kansas; Aurora, Illinois; Kodiak, Alaska; and Phoenix, Arizona. Bill graduated from North Phoenix High School in 1966. He especially enjoyed playing guitar and singing in rock bands with his high school buddies. It was at North High that Bill met Jan Chambers. He and Jan married right after graduation and were together for over 51 years. They were blessed with one daughter, Lori.

The family moved to Wisconsin in 1967, and Bill enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. While in college, he was active in the drama club and had roles in several plays. He graduated from UWGB in 1978 with a B. A. in Communications. While he was still attending college, he was hired in 1971 by the Green Bay Police Department as an officer. He appreciated all the different phases of police work, including starting out as a beat cop, spending time as a motorcycle officer, and later being a police/liaison officer to Southwest High School and Lombardi Middle School. Over the years, Bill moved up in rank and retired as Commander of Operations in 1999, after 28 years of service.

After retiring, Bill and Jan spent time In Arizona, but once they became grandparents, they returned to the De Pere area full time. Being a grandparent was what Bill cherished the most in life. He was especially happy that all his grandkids were athletic, and his priority was to plan his day around any games that might be scheduled.

Bill's various hobbies included motorcycling, guitar playing, biking, and golf club making. Many friends might still have a club or two in their golf bags that he made for them. Bill had a very inquiring mind and loved listening to talk radio, watching TV news shows, and debating politics. He also liked keeping in touch with his police family through being a member of the Benevolent Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Blue Knights, playing in his Thursday golf league, and watching Monday Night Football and Packers games. He truly valued the life-long friendships he had with his fellow police officers.

Bill's most endearing qualities were his great sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh. Even when his dementia took away his ability to communicate, his personality still came shining through. The family is so grateful to the staff at the Alpha Senior Concepts in Suamico where they showed Bill extraordinary care and love. We are also very thankful for the outstanding care and compassion he received from the Heartland Hospice team of Sherri, Tina, Janna, and Brooks. In addition, the family would like to thank Dr. Williams and his excellent staff.

Bill gave us the very best of his heart and soul, and he will be dearly missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Jan Parins; his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Dr. Gary Noble, De Pere; his five grandchildren, Grant, Emily, Edward, Claire, and Ian Noble, De Pere; and his sister, Kathy Parins, Two Rivers; Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Audrey Parins, and numerous other relatives.

Family and friends may call at St. Francis Xavier Parish, 220 S Michigan St, De Pere beginning at 9:30 AM on Monday, January 8, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM with Father Richard Getchel officiating.
