William "Bill" Albers, 83, De Pere, passed away at home on May 12, 2021. The son of Edward and Margaret (Rupiper) Albers was born in De Pere on March 9, 1938.
Bill grew up in the Town of Lawrence. He was active in 4H in his early years, which he said molded his leadership skills for the rest of his life. Bill graduated from West De Pere High School in 1955, where he excelled on the basketball court and in the classroom while leading many school activities. After high school, Bill went on to St. Norbert College, where he graduated in 1959.
On July 11, 1959, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Joanne Malewiski at St. Boniface Church. Bill and Joanne nurtured five children in their home on 6th Street in De Pere. They were married for almost 60 years before Joanne's passing in 2019.
Bill had a very successful career, selling American Family Insurance for over four decades. He loved spending time with family at their cottage on Grindle Lake, enjoyed playing cards with his high school friends throughout his life and spending winters in Arizona with his daughter Kristine. Bill loved attending all of his grandkids numerous events and had a special relationship with each one of them.
During his time at St. Norbert, Bill was involved in numerous clubs, his favorite of which was the Key Club. His involvement lead to him joining the Kiwanis Club of De Pere, which he served for over 50 years. Bill was President, Treasurer, and leader of the annual raffle. In 2016, he was awarded the De Pere Silver Knight Award, the community's highest honor for volunteerism; it was one of his proudest moments.
Survivors include his children, David (Penny) Albers, Katherine (Brad) Hunt, Karen (Scott) Slusar, Daniel (Nancy) Albers, and Kristine (Dean) Talbot; nine grandchildren, Gabrielle Albers (Brandon Crawford), Joseph (Elizabeth) Albers, Christian Albers (special friend Allie Zimmerman), Ashlee (Tyler) Bartlow, Austin and Dylan Hunt (special friend Haley Besaw), Allison Slusar, Calvin and Patrick Albers.
Further surviving are Bill's great-grandchildren, Grace Joanne Albers Crawford and William Albers; siblings Mike (Mary Ann) Albers, Mary Racine, and Marge (Erv) Hutjens; as well as his Godchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne, parents, Edward and Margaret, brother-in-law John Racine and many extended family members.
Friends may visit at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1307 Lourdes Avenue, De Pere, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021. Visitation will continue Saturday morning, May 22, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Saturday with Fr. Peter Ambting, O. Praem. officiating. Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial funds will be donated to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Kiwanis Club of De Pere.
