Obituary for John Dorn

John Lewis Dorn, De Pere, passed away on September 23, 2018 following a lengthy illness. John was born to John Pat Dorn and Ruby Dorn in Hilbert on August 23, 1934. His parents were farmers and builders. They had six children.

John’s family moved to Freedom where John milked cows in the morning, walked 4.5 miles to Immaculate Conception Parish to serve as an alter boy, went to school, then back home to milk. John had great respect for farmers.

John enlisted in the Marine Corps. in the 1950s and served in Korea. His favorite story was when the track was shot off his tank on Porkchop Hill. He drove his tank in circles to the bottom of the hill as fast as he could. All the G.I.s in the tank were safe. His motto was “Once a Marine, always a Marine.”

Home from the service, he was a millwright at Fort Howard Paper Mill. He became a real estate broker and salesman for commercial and residential properties. He owned Dorn Realty of Green Bay. John also owned Power Equipment of Bonduel, a farm implement company.

John also worked for Robaidek Silo for six years, learning new aspects of farming. In the 1990s, he became District Manager for six farm equipment companies in six states. He enjoyed his job. John was honored by President Jimmy Carter in Washington D.C. for his work with farmers.

John married the love of his life, Jan (Kubiak) Dorn on Dec. 26, 1971 at Nativity Parish. They were soulmates and traveled the world over, enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, fishing and dancing the polka. John and Jan were Eucharistic Ministers and also ushers at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in De Pere.

John is survived by his wife, Jan; children Laurie Ann (Tom) Allen, René Marie (Ronnie) Fuller, Clair and Brian Dorn; grandchildren, Brad (Jami) Spates, Jenny Spates (fiancé Matt Van Der Linden), Holly Spates (fiancé Brian Lowry), Amber (Chris) Kuptz and Jason Fuller. He is further survived by his sister, Alice and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby; siblings, Harold (Sue) Dorn, Andy Dorn, Helen Dorn and Anita (James) Kirsten. He is further preceded by his son, Kris Michael Dorn and daughter, Tracy Dorn.
