Family was most important to our beautiful mother, Leona. She asked that her obituary begin with family. She is being missed by her children: Eileen Miller, JoAnn Werner (John), Bill De Cleene (Judy), Larry De Cleene (Barb), John De Cleene (Lori), and Vonnie Voight (Larry). Missing her as well are her 17 grandchildren: Andrew Miller, James Werner (Delila), Andy Werner (Trina), William Werner, Miranda Uelmen (Justin), Craig De Cleene (Andrea), John Sweeney (Jessica), Jill De Cleene (Sam Abolkhair), Jenna De Cleene, Charlie De Cleene (Autumn), Molly Vandervest (Nate), Lee Dallmann (Jonny), Clair Neigenfind (Connor), John De Cleene (Simone), Neil De Cleene (Lauren), Stephanie Roth (Steve), and Stacie Kramer (Mike). These grandchildren provided Leona with 29 great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her son-in-law, Bob Arvey, brother Clyde Patzke (Millie), and in-laws, Lorretta Verhasselt, Helen Verhasselt, Alice Morrell, Joyce De Cleene, and Judy Johanski (Bob).
Greeting Leona in heaven will be her husband, Vic De Cleene, daughter Vicki Arvey, son-in-law, Ken Miller, her parents (Hap and Josie Patzke), many siblings, in-laws, and friends.
Along with raising seven children and several foster children, Leona filled her time by being an active member of Saint Boniface Church (OLOL), The Christian Mothers and teaching Faith Formation (CCD) classes. She was proud of being one of the first women to be a lector. Education was also important to Leona. She graduated from Saint Joseph Academy in 1940 and later pursued learning at UWGB when she was in her 50's. Leona enjoyed spending time with her family, taking her grandchildren camping with Vic, bowling, traveling, coloring, and reading.
Her last ten years, Leona flourished under the care of the Renaissance Assisted Living in De Pere. The staff and fellow residents there became her second family. We also thank and appreciate the kindness and caring of Unity Hospice, and the 4th floor staff of Bellin Hospital.
Her family was a recipient of her time, her work, her love, and her kindness. Her monument will be the time, work, love and kindness that THEY give to others.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, July 8th at Our Lady of Lourdes (OLOL) Church, 1305 Lourdes Ave., De Pere. Visitation will begin at 3:00 followed by Mass at 5:00 with Father Peter Ambting O.Pream. and Deacon Mike Vander Bloomen officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
