Robert "Buck" Janssen, 79, of De Pere died Friday morning November 2, 2012 at a local nursing home. The son of the late Robert and Mabel (De Noble) Janssen was born March 4, 1933 in De Pere. After serving his country in the US Army, Buck married the former Sue Ann Michel on September 6, 1958 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay.
Buck owned and operated Janssen's Tavern (Buck's Bar) in De Pere where his stories and sense of humor endeared him to many.
He was a painting contractor until his retirement in 2004. Buck was a member of the De Pere Optimist Club and the De Pere Knights of Columbus. He served as a sacristan at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. An avid outdoorsman, Buck enjoyed duck hunting, sailing, and golf. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
His loving family includes his wife, Sue Ann, his sons, John (Debbie), Joseph, Christopher (Eileen), and his daughter, Kellie Powless. His grandchildren include Jared (Courtney), Travis, Anya, Lenora, Key, Dane, Evelyn, Lillian, and Margaret. He is survived by his sisters Joy Mongin and Mary Schelter, and brother Michael Janssen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joan Sesil.
Family and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday November 5, 2012. Knights of Columbus Prayer Service will be held at 5:15 pm. Visitation will continue after 9:00 am Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish Family in De Pere. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Tuesday at the Church with Father Tim Shillcox, O. Praem., officiating. Inurnment in Allouez Mausoleum.
