Adam J. Van Rite, 32, of Ashwaubenon, answered his last alarm on Monday morning, May 18, 2009 at the home of his mother, Diane, following a courageous battle with cancer. The son of John Van Rite and Diane (Johnson) Van Rite was born August 15, 1976 in Green Bay. He was a 1994 graduate of West De Pere High School, and was a graduate of Fox Valley Technical College in Fire Science. Adam was a volunteer for Lawrence Fire Department for fifteen years and a full-time firefighter for De Pere Fire and Rescue for the past ten years. He was a proud member of the Brown County HAZ-MAT Team for the past ten years. He was an avid outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, running ATVs and spending time with his family. Adam was extremely family and community oriented, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his dad, John, of Florence, WI. his mom, Diane, of De Pere, his brother, Matt (Monica) Van Rite, sister Michelle Van Rite, a special friend, Angel Van Den Heuvel, as well as her sons, Kyle and Dominic. He is further survived by his grandmother, Elaine Johnson, Ashwaubenon, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Adam is also survived by his Firefighting Family of De Pere and Lawrence. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Ray and Gladys Van Rite, and Donald Johnson, and an uncle, Jim Van Rite.
Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, and De Pere from 2:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, May 21, 2009. De Pere and Lawrence Fire Departments will honor Adam with their Honor Guards throughout the visitation. Fire Department Prayer Vigil will conclude the evening at 8:00 pm Thursday. Visitation will continue after 8:30 am Friday at the funeral home until the processions leaves for church at 9:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Lourdes Avenue and Suburban Drive, De Pere, with Father Tim Shillcox, O.
