Adell M. Wutke, 98, of De Pere passed away peacefully with her family at her side on June 27, 2016, at Allouez Parkside Village. She was born on a farm outside of Gillett on February 14, 1918, was the youngest of three children, and the last surviving child of Louis and Emilie (Fergin) Dietz.
She attended Spring Hill Country Grade School, graduated from Gillett High School in 1936, completed two years of teacher's training in Milwaukee and Oconto Falls, and taught in a one room school in Hintz, WI.
Adell married Emil Wutke on July 16, 1939 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Green Valley. They moved to Los Angeles, CA and lived there for fifteen years. During that time they had three children, Dennis, Susan, and Yvonne. In 1954, Emil became seriously ill, and the family moved back to Wisconsin. They lived in Shawano, Gillett, Green Bay, and De Pere.
Adell worked at a variety of jobs through the years. She worked as a waitress, substituted in area schools, she was caregiver for a polio victim, was a clerk in a grocery store, taught vocational classes, taught at United Cerebral Palsy, was the supervisor of arts and crafts at the Community Service Center, and was a student life assistant at NWTC.
On August 3, 1979 Adell graduated from UWGB with a Bachelor of Science Degree and then became the Programming Director of the Brown County Commission on Aging (now known as the ADRC). She also tutored Hmong adults in English and life skills.
Adell enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had many interests and hobbies. She at varied times refinished furniture, made braided rugs, made hats, loved to read and enjoyed writing- she won an international writing contest. She loved birds and excursions in nature. She loved her two dogs, and later in life, enjoyed visits from her daughter and her two dogs. She enjoyed crafting and was an avid recycler. She traveled to other countries arranging tours for the ADRC. For many years, she was a 4-H leader for the Christy Brook Club in Gillett and also belonged to the Homemaker's Club there. In Green Bay she belonged to the Antique Study Club, German American Club, helped start a recycling club, and loved being a member of the Polish Heritage Society. Adell was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and since living in De Pere was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
Adell is survived by her three children: son, Dennis (Emma Jane) Wutke, of Kalispell, Montana; daughter, Susan Dunker of Weiser, Idaho; and daughter, Yvonne (Fred) Haworth, of De Pere; seven grandchildren, including Leslie (Jim) Luikens; Kristen (Jeff) Van Fleet; Eryn (Dan) Calobeer; and Eric (Tristan) Wutke, all of the Kalispell and Whitefish, Montana areas; Ted (Kimberly) Dunker of Leominster, Massachusetts; Sam (Joey) Haworth of Oak Creek, WI; and Emilie Haworth of De Pere; two step-grandchildren, Janean (Allen) Lewis, and Steven (Kellie) Dunker of Weiser, Idaho; twelve great-grandchildren; two step great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
Adell was preceded in death by her husband of sixty nine years, Emil, in 2009; brother, Emil; and sister, Emma.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 9:00 to 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church 1700 Lost Dauphin Road, De Pere. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday with Pastor Gary Nokleberg, officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, De Pere. Ryan Funeral Home of De Pere is in charge of arrangements.
