Aileen L. (Kennin) Oates, 80, a lifelong resident of De Pere, died Thursday, December 15, 2016. The daughter of Otto and Nora (Heider) Kennin was born December 4, 1936 in Abrams. On February 4, 1956, she married Robert Oates in Green Bay. They raised six children together.
Aileen worked as a bookkeeper for the 41 Truck Plaza for 32 years, from the year it opened until it closed. Throughout her career, she kept books for many businesses in the area. She made many friends throughout the years, at work and in the community.
She enjoyed gardening (especially her roses), doing crosswords and supervising her children as they helped care for her lawn and her home. Aileen was also a bingo enthusiast.
Her family was her pride and joy. She was a loving mother and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Aileen was a very caring person, and had a gift for making everyone she met feel special. She was a great cook, and loved baking treats around the holidays.
Aileen is survived by her children, James (Mary) Oates, Lori (Hank) Van Stedum, Lisa (Gene) Dorner, Jeffrey (Dawn) Oates and Michael Oates; 12 grandchildren, Ashley and Scott Oates, Christopher (Amber) and Brian (Andrea) Van Stedum, Lindsey (fianc Matt), Andrew, and Adam Dorner, Timothy (Heather), Ashley (fianc George) and Steven Oates, Lucas and Tyler Oates.
She is further survived by her six great-grandchildren, Natalie, Savannah, Samuel, Sadie, Charlotte and Violet; one sister, Trudy (John) Gorecki, siblings-in-law Mercedes Stievo and Tom Delano, as well as other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Otto and Nora Kennin, one son, Steven, two daughters-in-law, Kris and Michele, one sister, Fern Delano, and other members of her extended family.
Family and friends may call at St. John Lutheran Church, 1700 Lost Dauphin Drive, De Pere, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. Funeral services will be held at the church at 6:00 PM with Rev. Cindy Warmbier-Meyer officiating.
