Almeda J. Hollon, a beautiful spirit with an engaging smile, zest for life and love of friends and family, has passed over to eternal life. She was surrounded by her devoted and loving daughters and family, the loves of her life.
Almeda was born May 24, 1944, in L’Anse, Michigan, the heart of Yooper Country, to Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Hollon. She attended L’Anse High School and after graduation in 1963, she moved to Green Bay to attend cosmetology school where she worked as a manager and hairdresser for forty plus years in the Green Bay Area. Almeda was well known for her kind generosity to family and friends. She was an endless caregiver and always thought of others before herself. Her laugh was contagious and she lit up a room with her presence.
She was a beautiful person inside and out and will be greatly missed by all that loved and knew her. She will always remain an inspiration to us all and will continue to remind us that there are indeed angels among us!
Almeda played a big part in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as they grew up. She loved to go to Door County, and even traveled to Scotland with friends. She took many trips to visit family and friends in Michigan, South Dakota, Nebraska, Arizona, New York, and Canada. Almeda also enjoyed camping, playing country and gospel music, musical plays, painting, reading, and of course she was a Packer Backer too! She loved talking on the phone to keep in touch with everyone.
Almeda also loved to bake and even won a cherry pie contest in high school; she could make a mean cherry pie. She always let the granddaughters bake and make up their own concoctions and playdough too. The kids loved being in her beauty shop, whether doing their dolls’ hair or maybe Gram’s hair.
Almeda is survived, and will be deeply missed, by her two daughters, Amy (Jason) Nelson and Paula (Don) Dumas; her granddaughters, Amanda Dumas (Anthony), Aleesha (Caleb) Anderson, Yvette Nelson; great grandsons, Greyson, Ryder, Ruxyn, and Baby Anderson on the way. Her three great grandchildren were the sunshine in her life! They will indeed miss their Nana! She has many nieces and nephews who all meant so much to her. She always enjoyed being in their company, having fun and telling jokes or playing board games. She is further survived by her siblings and siblings-in-law, Albert Hollon and Carol Hollon, both of L’Anse, MI, Roger Hollon of Hill City, SD, lots of cousins and many nieces, nephews, and many friends who were all special to her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Lacey Hollon, brothers Charlie Hollon of Green Bay, WI, Robert (Helen) Hollon and Jerry Hollon of L’Anse, MI, sisters Genetta (LaVerne) Cole of Charlevoix, MI, two sisters-in-law, Liz Hollon of Hill City, SD, and Helen Hollon of L’Anse, MI; nephews Dale Hollon and Justin Connor, both of Skanee, MI.
Family and friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere, WI 54115 on Sunday, June 7, 2026, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Allouez Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum.
A memorial fund for Almeda will be established.
A special thank you to friend of the family John Hiltner and special niece Robin for helping with Almeda’s care. Also, a thank you to the entire staff on the ninth floor at St. Vincent Hospital, Unity Hospice, Dr. Stephanie Pritzl, and staff.
Remember: The best things in life are free! A warm hug, a kind word, and a smile.
