Obituary

Alverna J. Andersen (Jackovich) 92, passed away peacefully August 22, 2011. Vernie was born August 2, 1919 to Thomas and Mary Jackovich in Crystal Falls, MI and was raised in Amasa, MI. She was the captain of the Amasa High School basketball team and was given the well-deserved nickname "Dynamite"! Vernie married the late James P. Andersen and moved to De Pere, WI. She started her own business called Andersen�(TM)s Pasty Shop located in De Pere and Green Bay introducing the first pasty in Wisconsin. She was an instructor with NWTC, Damian House and Brown County Community Service Center. She owned and operated Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio in Escanaba, MI. She also worked at Shopko at 70+ years old. And she raised 10 children! She enjoyed cooking/baking, gardening, nature, feeding birds, teaching, especially people with special needs, and loved word search in her later years. Vernie was preceded in death by her mother and father, Thomas and Mary Jackovich, Amasa, MI, infant son, James, De Pere, granddaughter, Debbie Dumas, Green Bay, grandson, Matthew, De Pere, two great grandchildren, Matthew, Green Bay, Maggie, Little Suamico, son-in-law Richard Doolittle, Little Suamico, son-in-law Carl Wolter, De Pere, brother, Donald Jackovich, Neenah, sister, Lucille (Susie) Piatti, Green Bay. She is survived by her 10 children, Joanne Doolittle, Little Suamico, Andy (Alice) Andersen, Neenah, Carole(Norbert) Van Hulst, De Pere, Mary Dumas, Green Bay, Sue (Tom) Burch, De Pere, Steve (Judy) Andersen, De Pere, Sally Kordus, Green Bay, Jamie Wolter, De Pere, Jim(Lynn) Andersen, Pulaski, Lynne (Daniel) Peters, Green Bay. Also, a brother, Thomas Jackovich, Green Bay, two sisters, Marion Hoehne, De Pere, Frances Vandenberg, De Pere. 23 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, other relatives, and many friends. She will be sadly missed! Family and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 N. Tenth St, De Pere on Friday, August 26, 2011 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM with Fr. Tim Shillcox, O. Praem officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Cemetery.
