Obituary

MISCO, AUDREY F. (SCHMELTER) Audrey Misco, 80, formerly of DePere, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2008, surrounded by her family. Audrey was born August 18, 1928, to the late Leola and Arthur Schmelter, and was the second of five children. She married Glenn (Tex) Misco on October 16, 1947, who preceded her in death in 2001. Audrey enjoyed working in the restaurant business and started working in 1945, while still in high school, at the West Side Restaurant, managed by her mother Leola. She then worked at the Pat Golden Restaurant with her best friend, Eva Haltaufderheid. Audrey was then hired as a hostess and server at Town and Country Club, where she worked for 16 years. While working there, Audrey was proud to have met numerous famous people, to include Tony Canadeo, Vince Lombardi, and Bart Starr. Audrey established the End Zone Supper Club in 1970 and operated the restaurant for 4 years. Audrey and Tex moved on to purchase the Red Dog Saloon and operated it until 1981. Audrey and Tex moved to Three Lakes, WI, in 1981. There they enjoyed their slower-paced lifestyle, operating the Fairwood Motel on Range Line Lake. Audrey enjoyed visits by her family and friends, taking pontoon boat rides, and feeding her geese, chipmunks, deer and deer hunters. After two of her grandchildren joined the Army, Audrey started working at the Three Lakes American Legion and became a member of the American Legion Post 431 Auxiliary to show her patriotism. It was there that Audrey started organizing Packer parties, which were recognized in the book "Green, Gold and Proud". She was nominated for the Packer Fan Hall of Fame, but was awarded "#1 AUD" by the DMV and proudly displayed her award on her vehicle. Involved in the community, Audrey was also a member of Ducks Unlimited, DePere Historical Society, Oneida County Tavern League, and Rhinelander Tavern League. She is survived by her three children Peggy Misco, Susan Misco and JoAnn (Misco) Richmond; her son-in-law Kevin Richmond; her 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Terri Dorn, Tanya and Tony Ramos, Trevis and Connie Dorn, Chad and Kim Maes, Trinette and Steve Plummer, Charlie Maes, Kristy Richmond, Penny Maes, Traci and Neil Hutchcraft and Richard Richmond; and her 7 great-grandchildren, Collin Maes, Alyssa Ramos, Antonio Ramos, Calvin Hutchcraft, Owen Richmond, Alexandria Maes and Veda Maes. She is further survived by her brother Ivan Schmelter and his wife Jean, her sister Nancy Suda and her husband Larry, her sister Elaine Cayo, and her brother-in-law Thurman Misco of Virginia Beach, VA. She is preceded in death by her brother Allen Schmelter. Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere (920) 336-3171 from 3 to 8 pm Wed, Oct. 22nd. Funeral service will be held at 5:15 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be on Thurs, Oct. 23rd at 2:30 pm in Greenwood Cemetery. Audrey will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
