Obituary

On October 22, 2010, our mother, Barbara Louise (Wenberg) French of DePere seized the everlasting prize of living in eternal peace with her Savior Jesus Christ. She was born February 2, 1937 to the late Elizabeth (Clark) Wenberg and the late Herbert Wenberg. She graduated from East De Per High School in 1955 and attended Carroll College. She married our father, Wayne French in 1959 and he preceded her in death in 1999. Mom's first job was at the State Bank of De Pere. She then worked at Hickory Grove Sanatorium, followed by working at Westwood Elementary School as a teacher's aide for fifteen years. She also spent ten years working part-time at Apple Creek Inn. Mom was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Oneida and member of the De Pere Historical Society. Mom cherished the moments she spent with her children and grandchildren. She often told us we were her whole life and she proved that every day with her affections and selflessness. We adore her. Mom loved going on fishing trips to Canada with Dad and her brothers. She loved traveling, gardening, reading, working puzzles and collecting Charles Peterson and Thomas Kincaid prints. Some of the most wonderful memories Mom had were when she spent her summers growing up on the lakes in Waupaca. She talked about it often and you could see in her eyes she wished she could go back. "Those were the good old days". She is survived by her one son, Robert French (special friend Brenda and her children Brittney and Dakota), Oconto, her three daughters, Debbie Wauters (special friend Kacy), Green Bay, Brenda Reinhard (Mike), Oneida, Wendy and August (Eric), Oneida, grandchildren, Tim Hockers (LuAnne), Jody Barrette (Chad), Jaime and Scott Rosik, Jonny and Melanie August, Shane and Chad Reinhard, Robbi French, great-grandchildren, Zoe and Cora Hockers, Crue Barrette, brothers, Edwin Wenberg (Judy), David Wenberg (Brenda), Bill Wenberg (Linda), sisters, Jean Bara (Roger), Mary White (Randy) , brother-in-law, Bert French, sisters-in-law, Sherry Steiner (Gary), Ione French, Helen French, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant brother, Tommy, her father-in-law Bob French, mother-in-law, Bertha French, step mother-in-law Meta French, brother-in-law Dean French, son-in-law, Tom Wauters. Family and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Tuesday October 26, 2010. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Vernon Heim, officiating. Burial to follow at Lawrence Cemetery. Please visit www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the French family. Our family would like to thank the staff at Unity Hospice (Jack and Ingrid Meng Facilities) for their compassion and loving care they showed Mom. She lived there for almost seven months and considered many of the workers her family. We would also like to thank Roger and Gloria Bougie for watching over Mom after Dad passed away. Your kindness was and always will be appreciated. Also, thank you to Mom's Godchild and niece, Lea Bara, for her many visits and all the cards she send to cheer Mom up. Mom always said "Oh that Lea" ! She loved her like a daughter. In lieu of flowers our family will be accepting donations to give to Unity Hospice to help provide care for those who can't afford it. Sweet hour of prayer, Sweet hour of prayer, May I thy consolation share, Till, from Mount Pisgah's lofty height I view my home and take my flight This robe of flesh I'll drop and rise To seize the everlasting prize And shout while passing through the air Farewell, Farewell, Sweet hour of prayer.
