Bernard "Bernie" Kempen, 87, De Pere, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday morning, January 18, 2022. He was born May 27, 1934, to the late Bernard and Clara (Gevers) Kempen.
Upon graduation from high school Bernie served his country in the U.S. Army for two years. On May 7, 1960, he married Patricia (Pat) Phillips in Beaver Dam, WI. He worked as an Operations Manager for Armour Foods in Green Bay for 37 years. He also worked part-time for LCL Transit. After retiring, he was a courier for Pace Analytical for 10 years.
Spending time with family and friends, playing the guitar, listening to country music, watching the Green Bay Packers, and Thursday night golf with the boys are some of the things Bernie enjoyed. He was a lifelong member of St. Boniface/Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family.
He is survived by his wife Pat, their children: Tom (Kerry) Kempen, Kris (Rick) Vande Hei, John (Dawn) Kempen, Ann (Keith) Fabry, and his son-in-law Joe Kempen; and grandchildren: Kelsey, Brenna, Megan (Jon), Cole, Matt, Garrett, Jason, Shane, Jacob (Emma), Ryan, Payton, and two great grandchildren, Cain and Olivia.
Bernie is further survived by his sister Rose Ann Polley, and Pat's brother Jerry (Gail) Phillips, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Kathy and granddaughter Hannah. Bernie was further preceded in death by siblings; Al (Stella), Gilbert, Raphael, Marvin (Olive), Norman (Gail), Rev. Gerald, Bernice (Henry) Gevaert, Marie (Norbert) Jansen, Elaine (Kenneth "Carol") Deacon, Adrian (Yvonne), Johanna, and brother-in-law Dan Polley.
Friends may call after 4:00 PM Monday, January 24, 2022 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, 1307 Lourdes Ave., De Pere, with a 7:00 PM parish prayer service led by Deacon Mike VanderBloomen to bring the evening to a close. Visitation will continue after 9:00 AM on Tuesday at the church until 10:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with Fr. James Baraniak O.Praem. officiating, with burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family would be appreciated.
