Betty Jane (Anderson) Marquardt of De Pere, Wisconsin left this world peacefully on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the age of 88. The daughter of G. Maurice and Wena (Rademaker) Anderson, she was born in Marinette, Wisconsin on August 4, 1933 and grew up in McAllister, Wisconsin. Her family lovingly called her Betsy.
On October 6, 1962, she married James Arthur Wilmer Marquardt in McAllister, WI. She and Jim lived in two apartments in Green Bay before settling in their home on Driftwood Drive in West De Pere in 1966, where they raised their children, Daryl and Rob, and have remained ever since.
Betsy worked at Wisconsin Public Service in Green Bay and then as a library aide at Westwood Elementary School in West De Pere until she retired in 1995.
When the children were young, Betsy loved to spend summers with the family at their cottage on the bay near Peshtigo, fishing on the dock. She also loved camping with a large group of her extended family, enjoying Memorial Day weekend in Door County, Labor Day weekend in the Wisconsin Dells, and a week in Rhinelander.
Betsy was very active in Mission Sewing and the choir at St. John Lutheran Church in West De Pere. She and Jim used to square dance and bowl a lot in their younger years. She also enjoyed playing the piano, and made sure the household always had a pet or two, including goldfish, hamsters, rabbits, dogs, cats, and an occasional rat.
Betsy was preceded in death by a son, David James Marquardt, her parents and in-laws, siblings Lynn Robert Anderson and Gene Maurice Anderson, brother-in-law Lester Hurt, and nephews Russell Anderson and Adam Anderson.
Betsy is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Jim Marquardt, sons Daryl (Lisa) Marquardt of Sun Prairie, WI, and Rob (Janeen) Marquardt of Pacifica, CA; two grandsons, Drew and Ian Marquardt; sister Eunice Hurt; in-laws Sue Anderson, Ingrid Anderson, and Gerald (Louise) Sheahan; nephews Kevin (Sarah) Anderson, Jon Hurt, Phil (Liz) Sheahan; nieces Andrea Anderson, Colleen (Joe) Weinbauer, Cathy (Craig) Olson, as well as several grand nieces and nephews. Betty was very close to neighbors Carole and Tim Clark and their two daughters, Marah and Anne.
Visitation will be held at St. John Lutheran Church at 1700 Lost Dauphin Road, De Pere, from 9:30 – 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 24, followed by a memorial service with Rev. Cindy Warmbier-Meyer officiating. Burial is at De Pere Greenwood Cemetery.
