Elizabeth Ann McLester, age 82, traveled home to be with her loving husband, Gordy, on October 29, 2022.
Betty was born on June 1, 1940 to the late Theodore and Mamie (Parkhurst) Benson. She grew up in Oneida, graduated from Green Bay West High School, and then married the love of her life, the late Lee "Gordy" McLester III on August 8, 1959. They were married for 60 wonderful years. Her husband, Gordy, always called her "Sugar." Elizabeth was well known to all as Betty or "Grandma Sugar." She was instrumental in helping Gordy with his many published books on our Oneida History. She was a Mail Carrier for the Oneida Post Office for several years. She was an accomplished and recognized Oneida Artist who loved to share and teach her talents for Lace Making, Basket Making, beading, sewing and baking. She is well known for her Lemon Meringue pies and Apple Cake. She had been an active Oneida Hymn Singer for the past 30 years. Betty was an active member of the Oneida Holy Apostles Church and was on the Alter Guild. Her greatest love was for her family whom she held near and dear to her heart. Grandma Sugar was always there for you. She was not just our mom and Grandma Sugar but also to so many in the Oneida Community over the years.
She is survived by her 4 children: Lee "Skip" (Patricia) McLester IV, Julia McLester, Eric (Belinda) McLester, Jennifer (Donnie) Webster. Grandchildren 21: Dana McLester, Lee (Molly) McLester V, Lauren (Steve) Delie, James McLester, Sirena White, Chauncy White, Kalhaku (Portia) McLester, Lakwako (Iohontsarahkwasheton) McLester, Yuntlekalau McLester, Talon McLester, Loro McLester, Juno McLester, Marcus (Elizabeth) Webster, Zachariah Webster, Olivia (Danny) Domagalski, Mattie Robertson; Great Grandchildren 23: Elijah, Hailey, Rachel, Isabelle, Francesca, James Jr., Michael and Siobhan (Chevy), Thomas, Javon, Jaxon, Ileigh, Otcigaegu:wah, Dehaehiyakhune, Rarontisere, Roriwakeronnion, Tehakahli'yose, Wayeyá•tohtsyahte, Great Grandson McLester, Raleigha, Oliver, Wesson, Sapphire, and Mira. In addition, Betty is survived by her sister, Rose Benson, 100 yr. old, mother in law, Pearl McLester, in-laws, Tiny, Judy, Winnie, and Donny. Also, many aunties and uncles and even many more cousins.
In addition to her dear husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Irene Skenandore, brothers Jackie Benson, Anthony Benson, Jerry Benson.
A Funeral Service will be held for Betty at 12 PM on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Apostles, 2937 Freedom Rd., Oneida, WI 54155. Family and friends may visit at church from10 AM – 12 PM. The Oneida Singers will start at 11:30 AM, concluding at the time of service. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the parish cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special and sincere thank you to all the family and friends that have been there to support us all through this difficult time.
