Obituary

Brian K. Denny, age 62, chose to depart from this world on May 18, 2023 after a long battle of renal failure and other complications. Brian was born on April 6, 1961, the son of the late Alex and Clara (Metoxen) Denny.

Brian attended Freedom High School. On February 15, 1986, Brian married Julie Webster and their lives began a lifetime of raising six children together. Brian is survived by Jerome (Kim) Webster, Jermaine (Maria) Webster, Jason (Mikayla) Denny, Brian (Candy) Denny and Ashley Webster. He was preceded in death by one son, Josh Webster (2000).

Brian dedicated 43 years of his life working for the Oneida Nation as a maintenance worker for the Department of Public Works, taking care of the Oneida Health Center. He enjoyed all the many staff members of the years. His greatest joy was the summer picnics they had and was known as "Mad Dog Grill Master" of the Health Center, cooking for co-workers.

Two of Brian's greatest passions in life were hunting and playing softball. He loved going on hunting trips to Canada, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, always surrounded by good friends and his children. He was most proud of getting his prize bear and getting it made into a rug. Brian had many hunting stories to tell from the hunts at Romy's cabin, to those on the rez. Always the best times for him.

The world of softball began early on in Brian's life, having played for over 40 years, starting out with his brother, and becoming the "Sweathogs"! Lead by his eldest brother Ralph and cousins and friends joined on.

The final chapter of his softball years was playing in many coed softball tournaments. This opened a whole new world, and he was most proud of having taken the field with his wife and his children alongside him. Those 20+ years of traveling to all Wisconsin tribal reservations for softball tournament action brought a whole expansion of great new friends, created lasting friendships that Brian cherished forever. His greatest enjoyment was to see a third-generation granddaughter take the field, Aliyah House-Webster, a very proud moment for him.

Brian always enjoyed cooking and sharing his food at many family gatherings. The love he put into making his infamous venison stews and chili was awesome. He loved planting small vegetable gardens and then taught us how to can and preserve the harvest. He also loved raising dogs for hunting coon and rabbits.

Brian fought a good fight against all of his medical challenges he faced in life. We often questioned how much more can his body take. Every challenge that was thrown at him, he fired back with all he had, he didn't want to leave this world as his kids and grandkids were his greatest enjoyment, brought him laughter, smiles, totally brightened up his day. He leaves behind his 24 grandkids that will greatly miss him.

Brian is survived by his soulmate and best friend, Julie Denny, whom they shared 37 years of unconditional love, laughter and went through all the challenges together. Brian is further survived by his siblings, Debbie (Dennis) Johnson, Rick (Amanda) Denny and Lance Denny; and sister-in-law, Celestine Denny. He is even further survived by his nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Clara; son, Josh Webster; siblings, Ralph "Butch" Denny, Allen Denny and Beverly Denny.

Brian will be brought to his home one last time for an all-night wake, beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2023. The address for the wake is N6328 Onondaga Drive, Oneida. Brian will depart from the home Monday morning, and visitation will continue at 1018 Cedar Street, De Pere (one block over from Ryan Funeral Home), beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2023. A funeral service will begin at noon, with burial to follow at Oneida Methodist Cemetery.
