Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear family member, Carla Jean Clark age 66 of Oneida, WI. Carla passed away on Thursday, October 5th 2023 after a long battle with cancer. Her final moments were spent surrounded by family. She was born on May 21st, 1957 in Green Bay, WI to James and Phoebe (Swamp) Summers.

Carla graduated from Flandreau Indian High School, South Dakota in 1976. She was a proud member of the Oneida Nation and dedicated 34 years of continuous commitment working for her community. She started in Bingo in 1988 and transferred to Land Management in 1992, where she made many friends. Carla recently retired in 2022 when her complications became too much to work. Over the years, she had many accomplishments. Two of those were developing the Oneida Register of Deeds and being a key player in getting Oneida to be the first Midwest Region Tribe with access and the ability to input into the BIA's Trust Assets Accounts Management System.

Carla was a devoted wife, mother, and grandma. She loved flowers and especially enjoyed receiving weekly bouquets of flowers her husband would pick from their garden. Carla enjoyed watching "Days of Our Lives" and "Big Brother" in her cozy recliner, weekend rummage sale outings, and collecting tons of turtles. She enjoyed nature, especially watching monarch butterflies that she raised since they were caterpillars. But most of all, she enjoyed the time she spent with her family. Carla will be remembered as a selfless, altruistic wife and mother who always had a smile, even when times were tough. She was known for her kind heart and generous spirit. She never complained and was always willing to give people her last dollar and always sacrificed her needs for the good of the family. Family was everything to her including her three dogs. Carla will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Carla's family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life not the sadness of her passing.

She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 46 years, Gary Clark; her 4 children, Eric (Rebeca) Clark, Candy (Brian) Denny, Amanda Clark, and Jason Clark; her sister's, Georgia "Jo" (Jamie) Stevens and Celeste Skenandore; brother, Dan (Barb) Summers; 10 Grandchildren: Brionne, Destiny, Mileena, Sierra, Mariaya, Brooke, Alizah, Alex, Davis, and Brian III; 6 Great-Grandchildren, Ashton, Zayden, Harvey, Zander, Mateo, and Cormier; and her beloved dogs, Coco, Pee-Wee, and Lucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Phoebe (Swamp) Summers; Mother-in-law, Lorraine Swanson; brother, Banger Summers; as well as her granddaughter, Precious and numerous aunts and uncles.

Friends and family may gather on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Ryan Funeral Home 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere. From 4:00PM to 7:00PM. The Onieda Hymn Singers will begin at 6:30PM. Service will start at 7:00PM with Deacon Debbie Heckel presiding.

The Clark family wishes to thank all those who helped us and Carla along the way. A warm and heartfelt thank you to all staff of the 9th floor at St. Vincent hospital for your loving care and compassion. And a special thank you to her friends who comforted her during her fight; your support has meant the world to us all.
