Obituary

At the age of 76, Carol Jean Curran Johnson passed away quietly in her sleep after a lengthy illness on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013. The daughter of the late Lewis M. and Bessie M. (LeFevre) Curran was born June 7, 1937, in Maywood, Ill. She married her high school sweetheart, Wm. Michael Johnson, on July 2, 1955. Together, they raised a family of seven of their own children and hundreds of foster children. Through moves to several states and some serious personal health issues, they always kept a foster home open. Upon moving to Brown County in 1990, they became a receiving home and saw hundreds of children pass through their home in Greenleaf, some for a few days and others for months or years. Carol had a generous heart and enjoyed children. She was also an excellent cook and homemaker. Her experience as a paramedic came in handy as well. They retired from foster care in 2007, but continued to care for Genesis McMurtry whom they had welcomed into their family since she was but a day old. Carol was a shy soul, but could be fierce when it came to protecting children. She touched the lives of thousands of individuals over the years, helping to make the world a better place. She is survived by her husband: Michael; her children: Steven (Lori) Johnson of Port Angeles, Wash.; David (Claire) Johnson of Zachary, La.; Kenneth (Rachel) Johnson of Greenleaf; Melissa Wallis (Henry) of Lafayette, La.; Susan Johnson of New York; Peter Johnson of Green Bay; and Chris (Meredith) Johnson of Greenleaf: 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one brother: Lewis Curran of Florida; and two sisters: Helen Doyle of Washington and Lois Jeske of Washington, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Marilyn Josephsen, and her brother Edward Curran. Per Carol's request, there will be no service. Ryan Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family. Funeral Home: Ryan Funeral Home 305 N Tenth Street De Pere, WI US 54115
