Obituary

Charles F. Merkatoris, 83, lifelong resident of Green Bay, died Tuesday November 16, 2010 at Unity Hospice of a rare brain disorder, Jakob-Creutzfeld Disease. He was born February 9, 1927 to the late Frank and Valma (Rothe) Merkatoris. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he returned home to marry the love of his life, Nancy Johnson on May 26, 1951. Throughout his career, Charles met many people as operations manager at Schuster Construction. Most of all, Charles enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. He will be fondly remembered for his easy smile, kind words, quick wit and the true gentleman that he was. He took great pride in being a wonderful husband and being referred to by his children as The World's Greatest Dad. Survivors include his wife, Nancy, their children, Karen (Peter) Carpenter, Keith (Karen) Merkatoris, Jane (Tom) Monahan, his grandchildren, Casey Carpenter, Maty and Morgan Merkatoris, Nate Green, Helena and Meghan Monahan, one great grand daughter Emalea, one sister and brother-in-law, Marion (Sis) and Larry Pinchard, brother-in-law, Eugene (Butch) Sorenson. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lois Sorenson. Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm Thursday November 18, 2010. Service of Remembrance will be celebrated at 7:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home with his cousin, Father Ralph Merkatoris, officiating. Burial will be held Friday morning at Woodlawn Cemetery.
