Clarice "Boots" Jarock of De Pere, WI died peacefully on Oct. 31, 2019 after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was 83. A Green Bay native, Boots was born on November 1, 1935 to the late Zeno & Isabelle (Samorske) Krawczyk. A member of the first wave of women to enroll in St. Norbert College in the mid-1950s, she majored in Education and met the love of her life, Norm Jarock, in English class their sophomore year. As seniors, Boots was voted Homecoming Queen and Norm was the "King of Football," soon to be drafted by the Green Bay Packers. Following graduation, they married in June 1958. Boots became a Packers wife, but God had other plans and Norm suffered a career-ending injury later that summer. Boots became his co-captain in life when Norm became an officer in the United States Army. True partners, they relocated their family whenever Norm received new orders, almost every year during their 26 years of service. Boots gave birth to five children while they traveled the U.S. and world.
A tough, independent woman in a 5'2" frame, when Norm received orders for a solo tour-of-duty in Seoul, Korea, Boots refused to stay stateside alone with four children. After putting their belongings in storage, she went to Korea with the kids and dog. Boots hand-carried water to their second-floor apartment and boiled it before use, taught English to Korean children and adults, and Norm was able to visit the family most weekends. The family became "sponsored" and moved into U.S. Army housing when the tour was extended. Following Korea, they moved to Fairfax, VA; Carlisle, PA; Ft. Monroe, VA; Darmstadt, Germany; Ft. Sheridan, IL and Atlanta, GA.
In 1986, Boots & Norm retired and returned to De Pere, moving into their 27th house, close to where they met at St. Norbert College, where they lived for the next 30 years. Boots taught English as a Second Language for over a decade, was active with the Brown County Historical Society and the Green Bay and De Pere Antiquarian Society and basked in Norm's recognition as a Green Bay Packer alumnus. Forever Norm's cheerleader, Boots spent every day with him when his Parkinson's Disease progressed, and he went to a nursing home in fall 2014. After a couple of facilities, the family moved Norm into Angel's Touch Assisted Living in De Pere. They specialize in Memory Care, and six months later Boots also became a resident. Boots and Norm were together again for eight months until Norm passed in September 2018.
Boots led a fascinating life and is survived by her children Beth, Norfolk, VA; Norm Jr., Norfolk, VA; Marty (Steven Grimm), Seattle, WA; David, Green Bay, WI; and Matthew (Liz Bradshaw) and grandchildren Ava and Max, Pittsburgh, PA. She is further survived by siblings Vern (Judy) Krawczyk, Green Bay, WI; Skip (Sue) Krawczyk, Green Bay, WI; Mary (Hank) Secor, De Pere, WI; Lynn (Dale) Herold, Green Bay, WI; and Paula (Ken) Piton, Laona, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
The Jarock family would like to thank Angel's Touch Assisted Living and Compassus Hospice for their excellent care. We are also grateful for the care and attendance given by her siblings in Boot's last days.
