Roskom
December 10, 1927 – August 22, 2024
Claude August Roskom, 96, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Claude was born in the Town of Howard, WI on December 10, 1927, son of Peter and Anna (Cumps) Roskom. He married Gladys P. Leisgang on November 22, 1951, and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
In Claude's younger years, he enjoyed carpentry, painting, bowling, playing and coaching softball, playing cards, and traveling with family and friends. In more recent years he enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, especially working with his flowers, and going to the casino.
From March 1946 through December 1947, Claude served during WWII in the Army Air Corps. He received the Army Occupation Medal Japan and World War II Victory Medal for his service.
Claude started his civilian career delivering milk in the Seymour area, then went on to work at the Kimberly Clark Mill, Appleton Housing Authority, and Golden Ventures, until he retired in 1993. He volunteered for many years at St. Paul's Catholic Church; and was a volunteer firefighter in Combined Locks.
Claude is survived by his children Dan (Carolyn), Bruce (Rhonda), Susan (Ron) Hermus, Claudia (Stace) Kipp, Gene, Mary (Brian) Bast, and Sara (Chester) Woerishofer, daughter-in-law Denise; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Levi (Alice) Roskom, sister-in-law Shirley Roskom, numerous nieces and nephews, and other family members.
Claude was preceded in death by his wife Gladys, his parents Peter and Anna Roskom, 2 sisters, and 7 brothers.
Friends and family may come call from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at the Highland Memorial Park Chapel, 3131 N. Richmond in Appleton. A memorial service will begin immediately following visitation, and military honors will follow the service. Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ballard Glenn Assisted Living was his final home where he had many friends, caregivers, and staff that were like family. He was assisted in his final journey home by Heartland Hospice and St. Croix Hospice.
