Obituary

Dan "Wazzie" Nusbaum, 73, of Town of Rockland, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday October 26, 2016, at home. The son of the late Daniel "Dave" and Aleen (Kuhlman) Nusbaum was born December 26, 1942 in Madison. He graduated from De Pere High School and UW-Madison, where he was a proud member of the Babcock House. On September 4, 2004, he married Kit Overlock at Hickory Hills, the Nusbaum family farm. Dan worked for Libby, McNeill, & Libby for many years, one of the world's leading food producers. After retiring from Libby, he joined his father and brother, Bob, in the Black Angus cattle business in De Pere until the early 1990's. Full retirement led him to become a culinary enthusiast, and he filled his days with barbecuing and country music. He and Kit loved to travel, especially on trips that would take him to the road less travelled. He was an avid Badger and Packers fan, a serious Packers memorabilia collector, and a Charter Member of the Packers Hall of Fame. He had a knack for turning complete strangers into life-long friends at almost any occasion, and often while visiting cities during a Packers "away game." His low-key manner and quick wit left his unique impression on everyone he spent time with. Wazzie had a kind and gentle spirit, and always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. He was very generous with his gifts of time, talent and treasure. His generosity continues after life, and 60 to 100 people will benefit from his anatomical donor gifts. Survivors include his wife, Kit, his siblings, John and Nancy Nusbaum, Bill and Sue Nusbaum, Barbara and Bill Mawhinney, Bob and Amanda Nusbaum, David and Julie Nusbaum, and Nancy and Bill Hayes, as well as Kit's family, Jim Overlock, Susan Graeme, and Craig and Robin Overlock; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their cat, Rudee. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dick, and brothers-in-law, Jim Richards and Steve Graeme. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to establish the Dan Nusbaum scholarship through the Babcock House Scholarship & Award Fund when you reference # 132040860.
