Daniel Van Gheem, 67, of De Pere, formerly of Freedom, passed away peacefully Friday, October 18, 2013 at Angel's Touch Assisted Living in Ledgeview. He was born in Green Bay, WI on May 17, 1946, a son of the late Raphael and Alberta (De Ruyter) Van Gheem. On July 4, 1967 he married the former Gayle Schumerth at St. Mary Church, De Pere. She preceded him in death on August 14, 2013.
Dan was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oneida. He was strong, intelligent and hardworking in everything he did. He relied on these traits to become a very successful dairy farmer. Dan worked diligently to make sure that he provided for his family. Dan and Gayle spent 42 years together on their farm until he moved to Angel's Touch. It's no surprise that he followed Gayle so quickly to Heaven as her presence was always comforting to him.
Daniel is survived by his son Tim (Susan) Van Gheem; his daughter Tracie (Dustin) Van Gheem-Rottier; his five grandchildren: Annah, Lauren, Giselle, Garrett, Gretchen; his siblings: Anna Mae (Louis) Peterson, John "Jack" (Mary Ann) Van Gheem, Phil (Delores) Van Gheem, and Nick (Connie) Van Gheem; brother-in-law Barry (Mary Ann) Schumerth; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gayle Van Gheem; his son Tyler Van Gheem.
