Obituary

Darlene Kronschnabel, Green Bay, 83 years young, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 2, 2016. She was born on July 26, 1932 to the late Charles and Theresa Doughty. On June 2, 1951 she was united in marriage to Gerald (Jerry) Kronschnabel at St. Mary Catholic Church, Greenville, WI. Jerry preceded Darlene in death on October 22, 2015. She was lonely without him and missed him and wanted to join him for their 65th wedding anniversary this coming June. Darlene had a full life raising four children and sharing her love of food and cooking through her writing. She spent the last 50 years of her life writing food articles for local newspapers and national magazines. Forty years ago she published the first of 10 cookbooks, covering everything from appetizers to desserts, with a little homegrown know-how thrown in for good measure that she had learned from her mother and grandmothers. During her writing career, she served on numerous boards and in various officer positions with the Green Bay Writers Club, the Wisconsin Regional Writers Association, and the Council for Wisconsin Writers. She was also an instructor for 19 years at the Rhinelander School of the Arts, where she taught feature writing and how to write your life story. During her career she received many national awards and recognition for her writing and storytelling talents. She traveled the country and experienced many different cuisines and cultures which she incorporated into her writing. In later years when her home-based tasting panelists moved on with their lives, she discovered the joy of quilting. She found great excitement making quilts for each of her four children, her six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She also loved to work with different patterns, materials and textures to discover what kind of quilt she could make. In her spare time she and Jerry enjoyed going to auctions and estates sales, gardening, reading, and traveling around the country to visit family and friends. She was also a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family and kept busy with two book clubs, the St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary, of which she is a past president; the Antiquarian Society, cooking for family, and volunteering at numerous places and events including St Vincent Hospital Life Line. She is survived by her children: Robert Kronschnabel, Minneapolis, MN; Patricia (Roy) LaCombe, Maricopa, AZ; Jean (Bill) Williams, Columbia, MO; and Mari Krahn, Forest Lake, MN. Darlene is further survived by six grandchildren: Sarah (Steven) Cummings, Seattle, WA; Rachel Williams (Brandon Elliott), Shawnee, KS; Chrissy Williams, Joplin, MO; John (Ellyn) Williams, Rock Springs, WY; Elizabeth (Chad) Stenson, North Branch, MN; and Andrew Krahn, Glendale, WI.
