David Theodore "Smitty" Smith, 58, of Oneida, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, November 15, 2015 at home after a lengthy illness. The son of the late Theodore Denny and Edith Smith was born on January 19, 1957 in Oneida. On August 24, 2001 he married the former Charlene Sanders.
Dave was a Journeyman Painter for 35 years, and did incredible work. He owned Smitty's Painting for numerous years. David was proud to be a member of the Oneida Tribe. He had a distinctive and unique sense of humor, and was known for his outspoken honesty. If you knew Dave, you knew he never held back. Some of his phrases were "Smitty does as Smitty wants", and "There's only one chief in this teepee".
David will be deeply missed by his wife, Charlene; cherished daughter, Lily Jayne Smith; other children, Stacy White, Dave Smith Jr., and Wincee Smith; brother Jack (Beth) Smith and their children, Sam, Brittany, and Sara; step-children, Ellen, Jon, Joe, and Richard; numerous grandchildren and step-grandchildren; nephews, Red Tail Zephier and Red Elk Zephier; aunts, Becky (Eldred) Nicholas, and Alfreeda Green; uncle, Dean (Jean) Smith; brother in law, Cliff Danforth; friends, Jim "Big Jim" Plog, Pete "The Painter" Maas, Richard "Unc" Skenandore, Frank "Tonto" Nicholas, the Rendezvous Gang, his faithful companion, Buddy, and other beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Nora Smith; as well as his dog, Chief.
Friends and family may gather at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere, WI on Friday, November 20, 2015 from 9:00am until 12:00pm when a funeral service will be held, Pastor Mark Schumm officiating.
