Obituary

Dedric Jasper Shawanokasic "Southern Sky", 31, of De Pere, WI passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 2, 2025. He was born on June 11, 1994, to Travis McDaniel and Sheila Shawanokasic in Green Bay.

DJ loved the culinary arts and worked as a cook. He also enjoyed playing guitar, videogames, reading comic books, collecting Pokémon cards, weightlifting, and singing karaoke. He loved making candy and had a very active imagination. DJ had a special love for music and loved attending concerts. He especially loved his dog, Bucky, even though he was allergic.

DJ is survived by his parents, Travis Montgomery McDaniel and Sheila Shawanokasic (Robert), his sisters, Shanica Hill, and La Rissa Shawanokasic, his nephew Josias, as well as his grandmother Judith Jourdan.

He is further survived by his aunts and uncles, Michelle (Moon) Hill, La Donna Parker, Lai Lanna (Jermaine) Hill, and Kellen Hill, Samantha Jo and Joshua Shawanokasic, Lynn Young, Kiona Mc Daniel; great aunts and uncles, Butch, Mike, Danny, Bruce, Rick, Scott and Rocky King, Sally, Babe, Pete, Pudge, Hoss, and Namit Shawanokasic, Barbara Mckinze, Yvonne Jourdan, Henrietta Daly-Jourdan, Hank Jourdan, Jan Jourdan, Diane Jourdan, Tom Thorstenson, and Diana Demaree, as well as numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Anthony and Donna (King) Shawanokasic and Jerry McDaniel, great-grandparents Beatrice and Harold King, as well as his great aunts and uncles Rodney, Harvey, and Archie Shawanokasic, James Mckinze, Dean Tubby, Thomas Daly, Ken Jourdan, Mildred (Frank) Figueroa, and Patricia (Gordon) Benson.

Family and friends may come to call on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N Tenth Street, De Pere WI. The Oneida Hymn Singers will begin their song service at 12:30 PM. A funeral service will begin immediately following at 1:00PM.
