Delbert "Barney" Christensen, 89, De Pere, passed away early Saturday morning October 24, 2015 at his home. He was born April 19, 1926 in Beaver Dam to the late Bernhard and Alma Christensen. Barney served during WWII in the Army Air Corp having served as a Bombardier on many missions over Italy. After the war he married Lucille Van Da Huvel. He and Lucille had a cottage on the Oconto River in Mountain that both cherished greatly. Barney worked for the State Reformatory for over 40 years, retiring as the Captain of the Day Guard. He also was a lifetime member of the De Pere VFW, a volunteer at Unity Hospice for 7 years, and was well known to many for his keen since of humor.
Barney is survived by his children: Bill Christensen, Linda (Tom) Streifender, Jeff (Meredith) Christensen, Chris (Ann) Christensen, and Michael Christensen. He is further survived by his 4 grandchildren: Ben Christensen, Nick Christensen, Spencer Christensen, Sarah Larson, and his 6 great grandchildren: Payten, Jackson, Max, Nora, Gage, and Izabella. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille, his sister Mercedes Messinger, and his brother Vilroy Christensen.
Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME 305 N. Tenth Street De Pere after 3:30pm on Tuesday October 27, 2015, until the service at 6:30pm. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery next to Lucille.
