IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Denise Mary
Van Hoof
March 14, 1952 – September 19, 2024
Denise "Dee" Mary Van Hoof, 72 years old, was called home by her loving Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 19, 2024. Dee passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late John H. Sr. and Barbara Van Den Berg on March 14, 1952 in Van's Valley. Dee's unwavering strength and faith in the Good Lord has been an inspiration to all who knew her as she battled many serious medical issues over the past seven plus years, including cancer.
Dee married her devoted and loving husband, Joseph C. Van Hoof on August 18, 1972; recently celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary. Together they raised three loving children in the Township of Oneida, a mile from Dee's childhood home. Dee was a caretaker at heart, whether she was working as a Certified Nursing Assistant for the elderly, raising her family, or caring for others; her empathetic soul was always looking out for others. In December of 2015, Dee and Joe moved into their in-law suite at Cherokee and Jesse's home in the Town of Freedom a mile from where Joe grew up. Needless to say, moving into a three generation home was nothing short of an adventure. Dee had a front row seat to proms, other school dances, sporting events, teenage drama, break ups, game nights, hip hop music, rap, graduations, late night talks and so much more. She was often roped into being the "proof reader" and proved to be a strong study partner for all who needed her. Whether it was primary school, dental hygiene or respiratory therapy, she would be there to help. She was REALLY good at pharmacology. Dee loved it all, as family meant everything to her. She especially loved her role as Grandma.
Dee had a unique ability to listen and understand people. Her loving and compassionate nature made her the best listener and consoler to those around her. She had a fun loving personality who brought laughter to everyone around her wherever she went. She has left behind a beautiful legacy and will hold a special spot in so many people's hearts.
Dee had many interests. She loved to play games, put puzzles together, pontoon rides, spending time with family and friends at Legend Lake, trips and game nights with her long-time friends. Dee loved shopping and crafting with her sisters, having lunch and playing games with her sisters-in-law on Wednesdays, and Wahoo tournaments with her children and grandchildren. She loved life and creating memories with the people she loved.
Embroidery served as a creative and healing outlet for Dee as she went through her physical ailments. She spent hundreds and hundreds of hours stitching and crafting for her children, grandchildren, sisters and sisters-in-law, and friends. Items like night prayers, Christmas quilts, dish towels, bags, and aprons that will be cherished for a lifetime. She stitched with love all the way up to her final days. Dee had a list of projects she wanted to complete but, as she weakened, had to recruit her sisters, daughter, granddaughters, and friends to help see them through. This recruitment was coined the "Sweatshop". It was healing for all involved to stitch alongside Dee. It meant so much to Dee to look around and see her sweatshop in full swing and was comforted to know they planned to carry on her crafting spirit. Everyone she crossed paths with witnessed Dee's mental, physical, and spiritual strength which she embodied all the way to her final moments.
Dee is survived by her loving husband Joe Van Hoof, children and grandchildren Cheyenne (April) Van Hoof and their children Aiden Huss, Nova Van Hoof, Cherokee (Jesse) Anderson and their children Bailey (Dustin) Pahl, Rayna (Wyatt Handschke) Stauff, Trevor (Aubrey Van De Hey) Anderson and great-grandchild Oliver Van De Hey, Gracie (Kaden Stanelle) Anderson, Tinatin Davitashvili from Tbilisi, Georgia, Chase (Heather) Van Hoof and their children Colby and Dawson Van Hoof, and Monica Sanchez Hernandez from Barcelona, Spain
