IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Diana Lynn
Bain
July 15, 1946 – November 1, 2023
Diana "Dina" or "Dinah" Lynn Bain, 77, of De Pere, WI, passed away on November 1st after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Diana was preceded in death by beloved parents Burton and Eunice and brothers Rick, Andy, and Pat. She leaves behind an army of people who love her including her brother Howie, brother Jeff and sister-in-law Anita, sister Kate and brother-in-law Tim, sisters-in-law Colleen and Jane, and nieces and nephews Kelly, Jesse, Jolene, Noah, Ben, Luke, Justin, Tobin, Amanda, Jake, Tyler, Chelsea, Emily, and Moriah as well as many other great-nieces/nephews and friends.
As one of her nieces said recently, "I think Dina was born to be an aunt," and she certainly loved and supported her nieces and nephews like it was her reason for living. She was at every concert, sports event, birthday party, didn't hesitate to dress up for midnight Harry Potter book releases, and was a babysitter favorite because of her willingness to buy Pringles and ice cream and watch Star Wars 15 times in a row with no complaint.
She loved taking care of customers at The Dairy Bar which was later turned into Nicolet Restaurant by friends Char and Jerry LaRock. Nicolet Restaurant employed a host of Bain relatives over the years—at one point Dina even worked there with her younger sister Kate. In later years, she enjoyed being on the other side of the counter while her nieces and nephews refilled her bottomless cup of coffee and served blueberry pancakes.
Dina went to school for Fashion & Merchandising, and while she didn't become a Prada designer, she certainly inspired and delighted her family with flashing Christmas tree earrings, neon lime wedges, and rainbow-colored tube tops. She belonged to the group Herbs-in-Thyme where she began home-cooking her own mustard. She also became known for her puppy chow and rum cakes at Christmas and after whispering "my secret is I double the rum," one niece got veeeery tipsy in the back seat on a ride home from Christmas Eve at Grandma Bain's.
Aunt Betty was one of her favorite traveling companions, and together they visited Mexico, Europe, and made such good friends in Australia that they later came to visit them in Wisconsin. Diana also took a memorable trip to Alaska where she almost got kicked off the plane for having 27 different colors of nail polish in her carry-on.
Dinah was a carer by nature and later adventures included mission trips through First Congregational United Church of Christ to help people rebuild their homes after storms. Her favorite jobs were taking care of people at Home Instead and the CP Center.
Diana's family wishes to thank Breanna and the care staff at Eden Vista and Tracy at ProMedica for all the kindness and compassion they have shown throughout the last few years.
A visitation will be held at Cedar Creek Event Center (formerly First Congregational United Church of Christ) on Friday, November 10th at 3:00pm with a 5:00pm service. Dinner will follow at 6:00pm at Gallagher's Pizza. We encourage everyone to wear brightly colored clothes in honor of Aunt Dina and her vivid and loud wardrobe.
We also encourage everyone who has been affected by Alzheimer's Disease to consider supporting the cause or joining us next year in the Walk to End Alzheimer's.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and stories of Diana at this time.
