December 29, 1929 – February 26, 2024
Donald Leonard Keyser, 94, passed away following complications from a surgery on Monday, February 26, 2024. He was born December 29, 1929 to Alfred "Fritz" and Alberta (Johanna) Keyser. Don was the second born and the last surviving of their fourteen children.
Growing up, Don attended St. Boniface Grade School and Nicolet High. He served his country in the United States Army and was deployed in Germany during the Korean War. On December 22, 1951, Don married Mary Lou Sleight at St. Francis Xavier Church in De Pere.
Don was a man of many interests and talents. He spent 22 years working for Northern Paper Mill, 15 years teaching at NWTC, and 11 years owning and operating Ace High Bar on Main Street in De Pere. Don was a gifted carpenter and built his family homes and others in his spare time. For over 20 years, he and Mary Lou lived on Ranch Lake. Don was also an avid bow hunter, fisherman, storyteller, jokester and Packers fan.
He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Mary Lou; children, Stephen (Vicki) Keyser, Sally Tassol and Stuart (Susan) Keyser; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and members of his large extended family.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Berta; parents-in-law Sophia and Charles Sleight; son-in-law Tim Tassol; his siblings, siblings-in-law and other extended family.
Family and friends may visit at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1307 Lourdes Avenue, De Pere, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. James Baraniak, O.Praem. officiating. Burial will take place at Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, Wisconsin.
The Keyser family would like to thank the staff of the Aurora 3rd Floor ICU and Dr. Brenda Melnarik of the VA for their wonderful care of Don.
