Obituary

Donald Duane Sigl, 74, passed away surrounded by family in the early hours of Wednesday morning, November 1, 2023; another casualty of the Vietnam War. He was born March 7, 1949, in Manistique, MI, to Donald and Shirley (Ackley) Sigl. Don graduated from Green Bay Southwest High in 1967. Later that year he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served from 1967-1970. Giving back to the veterans, he was a DAV van driver for 10 years with over 500 hours of service.

On April 2, 2006, he exchanged vows with the love of his life, Shelby (Mueller) VanDeWalle. Their bond was one of strength and enduring until his death. They often laughed together when being asked when they had their first fight as they never did.

Don worked in the Power Plant at Fort Howard (GP) for 30 years.

His passions were GOLF, hunting, and fishing. Don got a hole in one at Hilly Haven GC on May 13, 2019. He loved his hunting trips out to Wyoming with family, especially taking his son Adam. He found total enjoyment in having taught Adam about hunting. Hunting down on the "farm" in Ithaca on the Michel farm since Don was a teen was a special time for him and his brother Kenny.

Don and Shelby loved to travel to many places, a few being Arizona, Hawaii, Florida and the Caribbean.

He enjoyed reading the educational section of the Sunday newspaper – the Sunday comics. Wasn't real keen on going to the cottage, but for Shelby he went willingly. He did love to fish up at Chute Pond especially with the grandkids and truly loved it when the family and friends were there.

Don is survived by his wife, Shelby; son Adam Habeck (Alisa) and Alisa's family; daughters: Theresa Beyer-VanDeWalle and Andrea Maresh; his grandchildren, Brad Beyer (Amanda), Garrett Beyer (Mallory), Morgan Maresh (Thomas), Allen Maresh, and Charleigh Maresh; his great-grandchildren: Beau, Noah, and Bennett.

He is survived by his brother Kenny; sisters: Linda Grunewald, and Debbie Frey. He is also survived by his nephews: Eric (Amanda), Nathan (Kaitlyn), Andy, Matt (Barbara), and Nick; niece Chantel; 5 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends and family may call at Cedar Creek, 1018 Cedar Street, De Pere, WI 54115 from 3-7PM on Thursday, November 9, 2023, and 9-11AM on Friday November 10, 2023, with the Funeral Service beginning at 11AM, with Pastor Chris presiding.

I will miss your mischievous smile and how you made our life fun for the last 17-1/2 years. Fly with the angels. You are pain and injury free. Have fun golfing with Duke and Ardie. You will forever be in my heart. Shel

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the ED, Cancer Center, Hospice, and Hospital staff at Aurora Baycare on Greenbrier Rd for taking good care of Don. Also, so many thanks to the Milo C. Huempfner Green Bay VA Clinic; especially for the excellent care from Dr. Asha Thaliath and her group. You all were awesome to work with.
