Donald M. Van De Ven, 87, of De Pere passed away Sunday afternoon, February 19, 2012 at a local Assisted Living Home. The son of the late Peter and Agnes (Linskens) Van De Ven was born April 10, 1924 in De Pere. Don attended St. Boniface Grade School and West De Pere High School. On June 28, 1947, he married the former Dorothy Rose Keyser at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Wrightstown. Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II.
Don worked for the City of De Pere for thirty-five years. Following retirement in 1986, he and Dorothy moved up north and resided there for over twenty years. They had belonged to St. Mary's of Lakewood. Donald belonged to the Athelstane Silver Cliff American Legion Post #66. Donald loved the outdoors; he especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his four wheeler and playing cribbage.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, their children, Peggy and Bill Klipstine, Denmark, Daniel and Karen Van De Ven, Crivitz, David and Beth Ven De Ven, Hartland, Pamela and Joe Walus, Abrams, Becky Bunker, Gresham, and Richard and Cathy Van De Ven, De Pere, fourteen grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, his brother, Sylvester Van De Ven, Denver, CO, and a sister, Carol Jean Yearian, Aurora, IL. He was preceded in death by
his parents Peter and Agnes, and his siblings, Arthur Van De Ven, Clayton Van De Ven, Eleanor Coenen, Ruth Shusky and Lorraine Johnson.
Family and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday February 22, 2012. Visitation will continue on Thursday morning at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 So. Michigan Street, De Pere from 9:00 am until time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday at the church with Father Patrick Beno, officiating. Full military burial rites will follow at the church, conducted by the Athelstane-Silver Cliff American Legion Post #66.
