Doris T. DeRuyter, 85, De Pere passed away peacefully Tuesday morning May 12, 2009 at a local nursing home. She was born July 15, 1923 in Freedom to the late Frank and Martha VanDenHeuvel. On May 11, 1943 she married John DeRuyter at St. Boniface Church in De Pere. Doris farmed with John in the Town of Lawrence ofr over 50 years. Doris was also a long time leader for the Lawrence 4H club, as well as past president of the St. Boniface Christian Mothers, and was active in the Green Bay Diocese Christian Mothers. She was also instrumental in the startup of Little League in Lawrence. She also was a long time poll worker on Election Day in Lawrence. Doris loved to travel with her friends, especially to Las Vegas. In later years she was a volunteer at San Luis Manor, often having picnics for the residents. Doris was a huge volunteer in both De Pere, and Lawrence. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren sports, and seldom missed a game. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in De Pere.
She is survived by her children; Michael DeRuyter and his special friend Mary Spaude, Tom (Sue) DeRuyter, and Tim (Lynette) DeRuyter. Doris is further survived by 8 grandchildren; Dan (Sonya), Missy (Mark), Scott (Tera), Lisa (Joe), Sara, Josh, Andy, and Sam. 1 great grandson, Adam, and her brother in law Herbert DeRuyter.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, and members of John's family.
Friends may call from 3 7 Thursday at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME 305 N. Tenth Street De Pere. A parish prayer service will be held at 3:30pm. Visitation will continue after 9:30am Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Lourdes Ave and Suburban Dr. De Pere until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am with Fr.
