Obituary

Jon L. Caldwell, 54, died Saturday, August 22, 2009. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jon was born on May 6, 1955 to Rodger and Jean Caldwell. After attending Baraboo High School, Jon went to Carroll College in Waukesha. Upon graduating from Carroll College, Jon attended the Illinois College of Optometry, graduating in 1981. Jon married his soul mate and love of his life, Robin Sims, on November 22, 1980. They were not only life partners, but business partners as well; working together for twenty five years. Together, Jon and Robin raised two wonderful children; Rachel, 25 and Spencer, 22. He was incredibly proud of them both, and was thrilled to spend his last months with them at home. Jon was blessed to have an identical twin, Craig (and his wife, Melanie), with whom he loved spending time. They were never apart for very long, and shared an incredibly special bond, lovingly referred to as their "special twin power." Jon was also fortunate to have a wonderful sister, Susan, whom he loved. He greatly appreciated all she did for him, and enjoyed her frequent visits immensely. Although his first love was always for family, Jon had a deep and dedicated passion to the optometric work he did. He and his partner, Dr. David Dufeck, started Eye and Vision Clinics in September 1981. Eye and Vision Clinics grew from one small office, into a twenty-eight year old business in both De Pere and Luxemburg. Jon was an incredibly talented optometrist who absolutely loved what he did. Not only did he treasure the amazing relationships he formed with his patients and coworkers, whom he viewed as his second family, but he truly loved helping people. Jon was proud of the work he did, not only with his patients in De Pere and Luxemburg, but also with the underprivileged families he provided eye care for during his VOSH trips to Mexico and Dominican Republic. Anyone who knew Jon recognized that he was a man on a mission - whether at work, spending time with friends and family or working on his beautiful home. Jon was always busy doing something! He and Robin built their dream home five years ago, and it became his sanctuary. When he was not doing something around the house, he could often be found sitting on the back deck with Robin watching the wildlife. At home, surrounded by his family, he was truly at peace. Jon is survived by his wife, Robin Caldwell, two children, Rachel and Spencer, Mother, Jean, brother, Craig (Melanie), sister, Susan (Bill) Krug, and nieces Natalie and Alison. He is preceded in death by his father, Rodger. The Caldwell family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to Dr. Philip Yazbak and the wonderful care that he provided Jon. Friends may call at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 305 North Tenth Street in De Pere from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M. Thursday August 27, 2009.
