Dudley B. Smith, 90, De Pere, passed away Sunday morning, January 5, 2020. He was born July 24, 1929, in Sparta, WI to the late Elmer and Ione (Buswell) Smith. Dudley married Mary Ellen Rottier on September 23, 1967, and they enjoyed 52 years together. Dudley graduated from Kendall High School and Madison Vocational School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Missouri. After discharge he entered the Merchant Marines. He then worked in the food service industry in WI, MN, AZ, and FL. He retired in 1989 from the Green Bay Correctional Institution and went on to enjoy 30 years of retirement. He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen; three children: William (friend Judy Price) Smith, Janice (Eric) Enli, Steven (Linda) Smith; as well as his six grandchildren: Phillip and Zachary Smith, Michala and Jacob Enli, and Matthew and Meghan Smith. Dudley was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Roderic, and aunts, uncles, and cousins. Friends may call after 12:00 PM Saturday, January 11, 2020, at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere, until time of service at 4:00 PM. The family would like to thank the 8th Floor staff at St. Vincent Hospital for their thoughtful care of Dudley. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
