Mr. Edwin D. King, Sr, 90, W1799 Culbertson Rd, Seymour, WI, died at his home on February 8, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was born February 7, 1922 to the late Albert and Sarah (Baird) King.
He married Lillian Moore on June 22, 1946. Edwin was very involved with youth and recreation. He formed Little League baseball teams and he also formed the Oneida Warriors basketball team which won many tournaments and also traveled throughout the United States. He also played dartball with the Veteran's league in Green Bay
He worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 30 years and retired in 1980.
Edwin was a veteran of the US Air Force and was stationed in Iceland in World War II. He served from November 1942 until May 1945 when he was honorably discharged with metals for: Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct, and a Victory metal. He was a heavy machine gunner and also a charter member of the Oneida VFW Robert Cornelius Post 7784.
He is survived by his wife Lillian; children: Ronald (Diane), Marilyn, Pamela Webster (Orlin), Edwin, Jr (Diane), Bruce (Sherri), Mike (Ingrid), and Albert (Tina). He is also survived by 30 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren; sister Alberta King-O'Shaggy; sister-in-law Lois Powless; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his sisters: Alice, Jenette, and Helen; one brother Ray; brother-in-law John Powless; great grandson Jaiman King-Martin; father and mother-in-law Simon and Irene Metoxen Moore; and sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Dwayne Danforth.
Friends may call at the Edwin King residence, W1799 Culbertson Rd, Seymour, WI on Thursday, February 09, 2012 after 6:00PM; Oneida Singers at 6:30 PM and VFW service at 7:00 PM with prayer service to follow. Visitation will continue on (TODAY) Friday, Feb 10, 2012 at Oneida United Methodist Church, Oneida from 10:00 AM until time of service. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM at church with Pastor Earl L. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Church cemetery with Military Honors.
