Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Vande Hei, 92, of De Pere, passed away Friday, October 5, 2012 at a local hospital. Betty was born on March 6, 1920 in Hartford City, Indiana. She was one of nine children born to William and Blanche Sinclair. On October 18, 1940 she married Boniface "Bon" Vande Hei, who preceded her in death on December 9, 1992.
Betty had a long and wonderful life full of many adventures. She loved to travel and was an excellent artist with several awards for her ceramic endeavors. Betty worked several jobs outside her home, the longest as head of the cafeteria at Abbot Pennings High School. Her most special "job", however, was that of Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother and she was great at that. Oh, the stories we all can tell.
Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Tom Pigeon, granddaughter Nicole Vincent and her children Nathan and Ellie, and grandson Christopher (Jennifer) and son Jacob. She is also survived by her sisters Eunice Bain, Marilyn Fleischer, Nonda "Cindy" Boyer, and her brother William Sinclair. Betty is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her son Randall, sister Melva Montoya, brothers Norman, Gene, and Jay Sinclair and their wives; sister in law Mickey Sinclair and brothers-in-law Burton Bain, Rudy Fleischer, and Jim Boyer. She also was preceded in death by Bon's parents and all eleven of his siblings and spouses.
The family would like to thank the staff at Woodside Lutheran nursing home for the care and comfort to all of us during these last six years. We especially want to thank the Holly Berry Heights staff and the Activity Staff for all they did to keep mom involved with life.
Bonnie would like to especially thank the following who have made her mom's life richer: The "Sisters" who made her life full of laughter and love, niece Lynda (Joe) Privett as her Thursday night dinner companion, niece Dianna Bain as her traveling companion, and nephew Ken (Dee) Vande Hei as her bowling tournament companions.
