Elsie (Kusch) Hussin, 97, peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 2nd, 2022. Elsie was born on August 30, 1924, to the late Julius and Emma (Pott) Kusch and was a lifelong resident of the Green Bay/De Pere area. On July 14, 1946, she married John Hussin at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Green Bay. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1978. She is also preceded in death by her step-brother Marvin (Dorothy) Pott, brother-in-law Arley Hussin, sister-in-law Shirley Fournier, and honorary sister Idoleta "Squeak" O'Brien. She is survived by three children: Sharon Hussin and Nancy Hussin, both of Green Bay, and John Hussin (Barb), Jr., of Prescott, Arizona. Elsie was a long standing member of St. John Lutheran Church where, in years past, she could be found making quilts and helping with meals for church events. She was a longtime employee at Stowe Drug in De Pere where she delighted in selling penny candy to neighborhood children and getting to know the customers. Elsie was known to some as "The Potholder Lady" as she created countless pairs of potholders for family, friends, and sometimes strangers. Elsie enjoyed engaging with her community, acting as an honorary grandma to many over the years. She was always up for visitors and a good laugh. Elsie loved whipping up goodies and took great joy in sharing her efforts with others. She was particularly known for her blue-ribbon winning seafoam candy. Elsie was also a devoted Packers fan, cheering her team on even in her final days. Elsie was a beloved grandma. Amber (Michael) Duff and Emily (Robert) Jones, children of John Jr., treasured her visits to Arizona. Elsie was also proud of her great-grandchildren, Emily's daughters Brianna (Marcus) Martinez, Halle Jones, and Zoey Jones, as well as Amber's son, John Duff. Great-great-grandson Andrew Martinez was a welcome extension of her family tree. Nancy's daughters, Lauren (David) Oldenburg and Tamra (Karl Nelson) Lucia, have warm memories of countless holidays with their grandmother and time spent together at the Brown County Fair. Lauren's sons, Graham and Nigel, were happy to continue the tradition of being recipients of Elsie's love and treats. The family would like to thank the staff at Patient Pines Assisted Living and Aseracare Hospice, as well as kind-hearted family and friends, who offered her comfort and care in her final months. A private service was held for Elsie. Ryan Funeral Home is assisting the family. To share a memory of Elsie or to leave an online condolence please go to www.ryanfh.com.
