Emil C. Wutke, 101, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on April 16, 2009 at Ledge View Nursing Center, De Pere. He was born in Advance, Wisconsin on July 13, 1907, the youngest of nine children, and was the last surviving child of August and Bertha (Radtke) Wutke.
He graduated from Shawano High School in 1926 and then attended Miss Brown's Business School in Milwaukee. After graduation he was a bookkeeper for many years. In 1937, he drove to Los Angeles, California to visit his brother, Albert. He got a position there, so he stayed. In 1939, he came back to Wisconsin and married Adell Dietz of Gillett on July 16 at St. John Lutheran Church, Green Valley. They moved to Los Angeles and lived there for 15 years. During that time they had three children, Dennis, Susan, and Yvonne. In 1954, Emil became seriously ill and the family moved back to Wisconsin. They lived in Shawano, Gillett, Green Bay and De Pere.
Emil had a love of gardening, bird watching, writing, photography, and baseball. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, De Pere, Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Adell; son, Dennis (Emma Jane) Wutke of Kalispell, Montana; daughter, Susan (Marlin) Dunker of Weiser, Idaho; and daughter, Yvonne (Fred) Haworth of De Pere, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, including Leslie (Jim) Luikens, Kristen (Jeff) Van Fleet, Eryn (Dan) Calobeer, and Eric (Tristan) Wutke all of the Kalispell, Montana area; Ted (Kimberly) Dunker of Leominister, Massachusetts; Sam (Joey) Haworth of Oak Creek, Wisconsin; and Emilie Haworth, of De Pere; two step-grandchildren, Janean (Allen) Lewis, and Steven Dunker of Weiser, Idaho; nine great-grandchildren, with another due in October of 2009; two step-great-granddaughters; a sister-in-law, Nona Wutkee from Camarillo, California; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 19, 2009. Visitation will continue at St. John Lutheran Church, Lost Dauphin Road at Scheuring Drive, De Pere from 10:00 am Monday until the time of service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday at the church with the Pastors Brian and Andrea Cain, officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
