Obituary

Fern J. Van Lanen, 93 of Green Bay passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at a local hospital. She was born June 27, 1917 in Green Bay to the late Carl and Ruth (Dionne) Siepert. Fern was a 1936 graduate of Nicolet High School. On May 30, 1938, she married Alfred Van Lanen at St. Boniface Catholic Church in De Pere. Fern and Al farmed for 20 years. She worked at Wisconsin Telephone for 15 years and the Ramada Inn for 16 years. She enjoyed Square Dancing, playing cards, fishing in northern Wisconsin, especially Hayward, and traveling. Fern loved spending time with family and friends. She was a member of St. Willebrord Catholic Church. She is survived by her children; Joan Braunsdorf of De Pere, Karen (Larry) Lufter of Ashwaubenon, and Mary Van Lanen of De Pere. Her grandchildren; Jim "Gus" Gustafson, Dawn Gustafson, Heather (John) Summers, Ryan (fianc Bobbi Clark) Lufter; as well as great grandchildren, Allen Gustafson and Mabel Lufter, and step-great grandchildren, Sean Summers and Lincoln Roberts. Her sister, Lois Jones. Her special friend/ companion, Emmett Mullen. Her in-laws; Mona Clark, Randel (Marilyn) Van Lanen, David Cleven, and Audrey Van Lanen Fern was preceded in death by her husband Alfred, her parents, her sister Irene (Clarence) Strenn, her infant brother, Gustav Carl, her son in laws Adolph Gustafson and Larry Braunsdorf, and brother in law Bill Jones. Friends may call at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME 305 N. Tenth Street De Pere from 4pm 7pm on Friday with a parish prayer service at 6:30pm. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Willebrord Catholic Church 209 S. Adams Street Green Bay until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. with Fr. Ken DeGroot O.Praem officiating.
