Obituary

Father David R. Baeten, 74, of Bellevue, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon November 27, 2010 at his home. The son of the late Christian G. and Viola M. (Hockers) Baeten was born March 11, 1936 in Green Bay. He graduated from St. Norbert High School in De Pere. St. Francis Minor and Major Seminary in Milwaukee. His uncle, Father Dominic Hockers, O. Praem was a powerful influence in his life and Dave was ordained to the Priesthood on June 9, 1962 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay by Bishop Stanislaus V. Bona. Father Baeten's Ministerial Appointments include: 1962 Assistant, St. Joseph Marinette; 1965, Chaplain-Mercy Medical Center, Oshkosh; 1965, Chaplain of Oshkosh of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Nurses; 1967, Chaplain of the Civil Air Patrol, Oshkosh; 1970, Diocese of Green Bay Director for Hospitals in the Green Bay Diocese; 1972, appointed Executive Director, National Association of Catholic Chaplains; 1976, Coordinator and Director of Pastoral Services of St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay; 1978, Pastor of St. Mary Parish, Oshkosh; 1981, Episcopal Vicar of Vicariate X; 1982, Temporary Administrator, St. Raphael the Archangel Parish, Oshkosh while remaining Pastor of St. Mary Parish, Oshkosh; 1982, Member of the Permanent Deaconate Board for a two year term; 1988, Pastor of St. Margaret Mary Parish, Neenah; 1994, Pastor of St. Matthew Parish, Green Bay, also in 1994, Presbyteral Council for three year term; 1995, appointed to College of Consulates for a five year term. Also in 1995, member of Administrative Council of the McCormick Home; 2002, retired as Pastor of St, Matthew Parish, Green Bay; 2004, Sacramental Chaplain, St. Vincent Hospital. Fr. Dave was presently a resident and Sacramental Chaplain of Bellevue Retirement Home. Survivors include his siblings: Joan and Ken Haen, Kaukauna; Doris and Richard Thomas, Wisconsin Rapids; Barbara and David Reinbold, Manitowoc; Ralph G. and Virginia Baeten, Green Bay; Virginia and Eugene Brown, Boston, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ralph C. Reception of the Body by Fr. Larry Seidl, Pastor, will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 3:00 pm at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 130 St. Matthews Street, Green Bay, followed by visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the church. Parish prayer service will be held at 7:00pm led by Ann Froelich, Pastoral Associate. Visitation will continue at the church from 9:00 am Thursday until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Thursday at the church with Bishop David L. Ricken, officiating, with Fr. Larry Seidl, Fr. Robert Fictum, and priests of the Diocese of Green Bay concelebrating. Burial will be held in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, De Pere. Ryan Funeral Home of De Pere is assisting the family with arrangements.
