IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gene Alois
Laurent
June 28, 1940 – May 29, 2023
Gene A. Laurent – Born June 28, 1940. Passed to eternal life May 29th, 2023.
Gene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barb (Crowell) Laurent, and three sons, Scott (Sue) Laurent, Steve (Tina) Laurent and Andy (Michelle) Laurent, and two siblings Jan (Steve) Langlais and Dan (Karon) Laurent. Loving Papa of nine grandchildren; Alex (Sarah), Allison (Brett), Kaleb (Hannah), Kendall, Zach, Seth, Ben, Mackenzie, and Megan and one great grandchild, Emma (Alex).
Gene was born in Algoma, WI, son of Al and Emily Laurent. In his early years, Gene excelled at sports and earned the nickname "Tuffy" at Algoma High School for his hard-nosed competitiveness. After graduating from high school in 1958, he attended St. Norbert College where he earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration and graduated in 1962.
Gene started his professional career at the Folding Carton Division of Green Bay Packaging in 1963 and spent the next 39 years working for the company until he finally retired, including the establishment of the plant in the Wausau division. It is also where he and Barb first met and started on their life-long journey together.
Gene was a devoted husband and father and loved doing things with his children and grandchildren. He gave of his time and talent by coaching youth sports, refereeing basketball, providing tax aid for AARP members and many years of Kiwanis service.
Gene loved to be outdoors and his happy place was when he had his hands dirty planting his tomatoes and onions or working in the yard. He loved to fish and spent many hours with family and friends with a line in the water telling stories and catching fish. He was a quiet and humble man who enjoyed his quiet time but he laughed hard and smiled all the time when he was surrounded by his family.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents Al and Emily, brothers-in-law Jeff Crowell and Dick Reichert and sister-in-law Mary Jo Mammoser.
Special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Mary's Hospital and the De Pere EMT. They showed compassion and support throughout Gene's final days and we are forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers the family asks you to do a random act of kindness.
