Gene Louis Schweitzer, 68, De Pere, passed away peacefully on Saturday December 6, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital, after suffering 12 years of medical complications. He was born on June 12, 1946 in Sheboygan County to the late Sylvester and Bernice (Walber) Schweitzer. On November 27, 1965 he was united in marriage to Rose Ann Holzmann, and they recently celebrated 49 years of marriage. Gene proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He loved the outdoors, whether it was hunting or doing yard work. Gene also liked to gamble, and play cards, especially sheepshead. He also loved his dog Peanut, and the other Dachshunds he raised throughout the years. Gene's family always came first and it was time with them he cherished the most.
Gene is survived by his loving wife Rose Ann, children; Scott (Michelle) Schweitzer, Maine, Sheri Hoffman, Ashwaubenon, Jason (Holly) Schweitzer, Green Bay, and his grandchildren, Cory Schweitzer, Ryan Schweitzer, Justin Hoffman, Brittney Schweitzer, and Briana Schweitzer. He is further survived by his brothers, John Schweitzer, and William Schweitzer, as well as brother and sister in laws; Larry (Irene) Holzmann, Edward Holzmann, Ronald (Sandy) Holzmann, Stanley Holzmann, Richard (Sharon) Holzmann, and David (Lisa) Holzmann. Gene's Godchildren, Angie Sheedlo, and Rachael Schweitzer, as well as his aunts and uncles; Bernard (Marion) Schweitzer, Armella Walber, Delores Schweitzer, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister in laws, Darlene Schweitzer, Carol Schweitzer, Rosie Holzmann, and his in-laws Larry and Leona Holzmann.
Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family corner of Lourdes Ave. and Suburban Drive in De Pere after 9am on Wednesday December 10, 2014. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am with Fr. Tim Shillcox O.Praem officiating. Burial will take place in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Kiel.
