George John Van Rossum, 94 of Freedom passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 13, 2010. He was born August 31, 1916 to the late Peter and Dorothy (Van Lanen) Van Rossum. On May 23, 1940 he married Ruth Kerkhoff at St. Paul Catholic Church in Wrightstown. She preceded him in death on June 17, 1995. George farmed in the Town of Oneida for nearly 30 years. After retiring from farming he built homes throughout the area. George enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting, fixing old tractors or just tinkering around the shop. His greatest joy came from visiting with people, especially his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his children; David Van Rossum, Dorothy Hoffman, Kenneth Van Rossum, Karen (Duane) Court, Gary Van Rossum, Al (Marg) Van Rossum, Jeff (Gail) Van Rossum, 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and his sister Loretta "Toots" (Melvin) Green. He is further survived by Ruth's family; Marie Simpson, Rose Van Rossum, Elmer Kerkhoff, and his good friends Larry and Lucina Jandry.
His brothers; Adrian, Charlie, Norb, and Henry, and his sister Bertha preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME 305 N. Tenth Street De Pere from 4 8pm Monday, with a parish prayer service at 7pm. Visitation will continue after 9am Tuesday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am with Fr. David Hoffman and Deacon Donald Newhouse officiating burial in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery Van's Valley. Please go to www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the family.
