Gerald R. Smith, 82, Freedom, passed away on Friday morning August 21, 2009 at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. He was born on October 26, 1926 in Outagamie County to the late Earl and Ella (Murphy) Smith. On May 20, 1948 he married Dorothy Green, and she preceded him in death in 1999. Gerald farmed all his life. He enjoyed hunting, woodcarving, and watching the Green Bay Packers.
He is survived by his children; Kenneth (Julane) Smith of Freedom, Paulene (Jack) Van Asten of Freedom, Randall (Nancy) Smith of Freedom, and Mary Lou (Greg) Jahnke of Appleton. He is further survived by his 11 grandchildren; Adam (Katie), Joseph, Daniel, Aaron (Jaime), Krystal (Garrett), Brandon, Nicholas (Nikki), Ashley, Kylie, Tierra, and Chantel, as well as 3 great grandchildren; Gavin, Owen, and Marlee. Gerald is also survived by his siblings; Eunice (Bob) Romenesko, Mary Ellen Kavanaugh, and Mike (Donna) Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his grandson Randall Jr., as well as his two sisters; Gen Ziegler, and Valeria Huss.
Friends may call after 9am Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11am with Fr. Dave Hoffman and Deacon Don Newhouse officiating.
