January 15, 1955 – September 4, 2024
Glen W. Smits, 69, Oneida, passed away suddenly late Wednesday night September 4, 2024, after being diagnosed just four days earlier with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. A diagnosis of prostate cancer in 2013 and suffering with Alzheimer's.
He was born January 15, 1955, to Lloyd and Jean (Janssen) Smits. Glen graduated from Ashwaubenon High School, where he just celebrated his 5oth class reunion.
In 1978 he married Julia "Julie" Van Rite, and they just celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. Glen and Julie had two beautiful children, Wesley (who died suddenly in 2022) and daughter Andria "Andi" "his best friend", and his little granddaughter Macie Mae Smits, who he adored.
Glen was a sausage maker, as well as a farmer. Glen and Julie sold their farm in 2014 and built their forever home in Oneida. He loved any kind of hunting, fishing and social gatherings.
He is survived by his wife Julie, daughter Andi and granddaughter Macie. Glen's siblings; Gary Smits, Max (Colleen) Smits, Gloria (Mike) Vander Logt, Pete (Penny) Smits, brother-in-law Mike Rottier, as well as Julie's family and numerous nieces and nephews.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, son Wesley, his sister Judy Smits, brother Paul Smits, sister-in-law Judy Smits, and nephew Bob Smits.
Friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere from 4:00PM – 7:00PM Thursday, September 12, 2024. Visitation will continue Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1305 Lourdes Ave., De Pere from 9:00AM – 10:15AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM with Fr. James Baraniak O.Praem. officiating.
